Marbella is easy on the eye, with the Sierras as a backdrop, sparkling blue sea and golden sands at the fore front, oh and lots of sunshine. Although recognised as a destination for endless beach activities with night life and casinos, it has a strong streak of culture running through its veins.

Taster Tours

Start with a meander along the promenade lined beach front to Puerto Banus for those with energy to burn. Rest part way in one of the buzzy bars or cafes whilst you eye up the water sport options, which may amuse on another day. The marina at your destination, has an extravagant array of luxury boats as far as the eye can see. Look and wander and perhaps dream before turning your gaze to the designer label boutiques which surround you. The Saturday Market has an extensive display of produce and local crafts. The Sammer Gallery of modern art  provides a welcome cultural perspective. Time to eat did I hear you say......you choose....then drift back by foot, cab or local transport.

The old town is stunning with a labyrinth of cobbled streets, 16c buildings which culminate in Orange Square. The orange trees provide a shady perfumed respite for those sitting and sipping in the local cafes. Then it’s time to visit the church of  Ermita de Santiago and peek into the various boutiques to see if you can resist their temptations and displays.

The Sculptures of Salvadore Dali line the walkway from town to beach and really are impressive. The Parque de la Constitucion a leafy restful place with an open air theatre for summertime productions. In fact artistic options abound for those who dare to seek and wander into those nooks and crannies. Do spend some time in the 18c church of Inglesia Mayor de la Encarnacion, the whole history of its origins are reflected in the building structure. The Ralli Museum has the largest collection in Europe of Latino-American living artists.

Time to Linger

Bars, cafes and restaurants abound at the beach front, amidst the town centre and the historical cobbled streets.....something to appeal to all tastes and pockets. If you tire of beach side pursuits take a day trip to Malaga and the Picasso Museum, certainly worth the time and effort.
